ISH Middle East and North Africa Regional Advisory Group Chair Jafar Alsaid reports on their recent meeting which explored the effects of fasting on blood pressure and the impact of environmental pollution on cardiovascular disease.
The ISH is saddened to hear of the death of Professor Henry Black. Professor Black was a significant figure in the field of hypertension, publishing almost 400 papers and authoring several textbooks on hypertension. He was formerly President of the American Society of Hypertension, and was known for the time he dedicated to mentorship of students in the field.
A review published in June 2024 outlines how sex-specific risk factors, including pregnancy and menopause, make women more likely to have more adverse cardiovascular outcomes than men, and how gaps in management outcomes persist between the two sexes. Authors include ISH Past President Alta Schutte.
